John Bentil is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
Bentil earned a PhD in Minerals Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, Ghana, in 2018. He graduated with a Master of Science in Water Engineering and Environmental Management from the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, United Kingdom, in 2005, and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Project Development and Evaluation from Han University of Applied Sciences, Expertise Centre in Built Environment, Arnhem, Netherlands. He also earned a Higher Diploma in IT Management from Westminster College of Computing in London, U.K., and a Diploma in Minerals Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Institute of Mining and Minerals Engineering. Additionally, he holds a NEBOSH Diploma Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, an Oil Spillage Management Certificate, and a Cyanide Awareness Certificate from DuPont.
He has served on numerous committees, both local and international. Notably, a member of the committee that draughted the technical proposal for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Pipefitting and Welding in Ghana, a panellist and a moderator of some sections of the Local Content Conference in Ghana, and a panel member for the Pecan Energies Environmental Impact Assessment Public Hearing Evaluation.
John supervised the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Development Programme Training by the Petroleum Commission of Ghana, NVQ training in Oil and Gas Production, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Electrical Appreciation for candidates from Modec Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, and the GetEnergy Field Ready projects on oil and gas for some selected Ghanaians and Mozambicans. He is a Professional Engineer (PE-IET, GH), a member of the International Association of Engineers, a member of the Global Engineering Deans Council, a Chartered Administrator, and a Chartered Management Consultant. He is also the Lead Consultant for the transfer of the Japanese Stein Pavement Technology in Ghana.
Bentil began his career as a Leading Laboratory Assistant at the Wet Chemistry Unit of the SGS Analytical Laboratory Services in Tarkwa from 1993 to 1996. He also served as a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician and Acting Project Metallurgist at Abosso Goldfields, Damang Mine Site in 2001 and 2002, respectively.
Currently, he is the Centre Director of the Centre of Excellence for Oil and Gas Studies – Jubilee Technical Training Centre (JTTC), where he coordinates capacity development and localisation and supervises the Oil and Gas and its allied training programmes. He is also a visiting Professor, Program Advisor, and Facilitator for the Canada Nexus Institute of Petroleum Management.
He is an expert in Oil and Gas training, Water and Wastewater treatment, Occupational Health and Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Impact and Risk Assessment, and Circular Economy.
